Procedure
Rhinoplasty is carried out on an out-patient basis, and it can be done either open or closed. Both these approaches tend to have incisions that are being made inside the internal nostrils region. However, if open rhinoplasty is done, then it can add an incision externally (it can be a few millimeters incision) on the undersurface of the columellae, which is the tissue dividing the nostrils. Every type of Rhinoplasty procedure is different, and it is customized as per the patient’s anatomy while also considering the expectations of the patient from this procedure. While doing the procedure, the surgeon can either use general anesthesia or local anesthesia. During the surgical procedure, the bone, as well as the cartilage of the nose, is modified (they can either be removed or added). For addressing any breathing difficulties, the surgeon can correct a deviated nasal septum. In some cases, the surgery may also need overnight hospitalization.
Recovery Time
For the recovery time, this usually depends upon the type of procedure being performed, whether it is open or closed. Normally, the recovery time is 1-2 weeks. Some patients can even have a rapid recovery i.e. within 5-6 days (this is usually for closed procedure). After 5-6 days, one can remove the splint from the nose and can even go out in public, if it is desired. After this splint has been removed, there is very little or even no bruising at all. After this, you will be ready to attend your dinner date the same night without any of the telltale signs of the surgical procedure.
